Artistic Inspiration
Gil Noble, producer and host of WABC-TV’s television series, “Like it is,” presents provocative and enlightening interviews with some of the most innovative black artists, educators, athletes, and heads of state, as well as the poor and victimized of Black America. His one' hour broadcast captured my admiration because he presents an informative dialogue minus the sensationalist spin. Some past guests on his show were: Muhammad Ali, Bob Marley, Bill Cosby, Louis Farrakhan, and former Supreme Court Justice Adam Clayton Powell Jr. In 1980, Noble conducted a critically acclaimed interview with singer/producer Bob Marley that was later turned into a documentary. In this interview, Marley shared his thoughts on politics, family, as well as his musical roots. He frequently travels to remote locations to conduct interviews with some of the most notorious of society. He conducted an interview in a drug house with three heroin addicts during the seventies' Harlem heroin epidemic. The men exposed their decaying bodies that resulted from repeated local intravenous needle injections. This episode of “Like It Is” remains the main reason why I never participated in drug culture. Noble began his career at WABC-TV in 1967 as an anchorman and over forty years later is still the producer and host of “Like it is.” To sum it up, few professionals in the field of journalism can claim the respect and longevity of Gil Noble.
