Sebastian Lubbers' CMS 3710 Project 2 Analysis
Postcards From Yo Momma
BlogHer Network’s Postcards From Yo Momma offers visitors a glimpse into the digital world of mother/offspring correspondence. Launched in 2008, Postcards From Yo Momma has received over 7,000 submissions, ranked as a finalist in the blog category for the 2008 SXSW Web Awards, and spawned a book. Postcards from Yo Momma falls under the same category of humor sites that LOLcats and Failblog (both on the Cheezburger Network), FML, and Not Always Right are in. Postcards From Yo Momma is entirely dependent on user submitted content meaning that the site’s originality is dependent on what users submit. The site will be analyzed according to concepts created by Hillman Curtis in MTIV: Making the Invisible Visible and Horton and Patrick J. Lynch in The Web Style Guide and Lev Manovich in The Language of New Media.

This project’s goal is to construct an analysis of Postcards From Yo Momma based on the following criteria:
- Theme
- Site Structure
- Color
- Audience
- Interactivity
This project will also determine whether or not the site has succeeded or failed in any these areas. This project will use concepts and terms used in Clayton State University’s CMS 3710 class along those presented in material studied over the semester. This project will be presented in a format dictated by the Project 2 guidelines on the CMS 3710 site (found here) in the form of a student website. Throughout my project, I will be referring to my website (Postcards From Yo Mamma) using the acronym PFYM for ease of use.
