Color
Color is instrumental in expressing the overall tone of the website. Leatrice Eiseman says, "color adds value and meaning to communications"(MTIV p.147). Readers have a psychological response to color as referenced in Making the Invisible Visible(Curtis p.147). When choosing color, the site designer should consider the tone of the site's message. The more intense the color combination, the louder your message. Subdued colors make for a subtle message. For instance the color red is associated with danger so when used in media, it reflects a sense of urgency.

Discovery Earth Live designer uses a lot of tertiary shades of blues and greens. This combination creates a calming effect which works well on educational sites. Green is symbolic of nature and renewal. Blue is a restful color symbolic of water and the sky. Together they work well to create a life sustaining duo present that mimic nature. The use of black in this site is effective in conveying outer space which is where planet earth is located. In summary, the color combinations work well to support the theme of Discovery Earth Live. The colors create a welcoming environment for readers to explore.
