Analysis| Discovery Earth Live

Introduction

The World Wide Web is the source of information for people all over the world.  It connects millions of people with various racial, social and economic backgrounds. With this new form of media comes the responsibility to provide efficient and straightforward websites.  In the Writing for Digital Media course at Clayton State University, we are required to analyze an award winning website from the SXSW festival. Each year, the SXSW Festival recognizes the most creative web sites.  In this site I will analyze Discovery Earth Live based on concepts I learned from the Web Style Guide, Hillman Curtis’ Making the Invisible Visible and Lev Manovich’s The Language of New Media

In 2009, Discovery Earth Live was recognized by the SXSW festival as an award winning online educational resource. It’s an interactive site designed to educate its reader on the state of planet earth and the affects of global warming, earthquakes, and the likes. Its linear structure and easy navigation make it easy to follow. It appeals to a vast audience ranging from small children to senior citizens.  The site is filled with vivid interactive graphics that draw the reader in.  Discovery Earth Live allows you to travel to outer space and across the globe without leaving your living room.
