Theme
One of the most important aspects of a website is its theme. Every website should have one. The theme should reflect the overall purpose of the website. Hillman Curtis says it best, "Theme=Style"(MTIV p.128). The theme of Discovery Earth Live is discovery. The site's purpose is to build awareness on the state of planet earth through discovery.

The reader is immediately introduced to a virtual earth and has the option to explore it's current state in near real time. There are several options available for exploration as demonstrated above. There are illustrations of earthquakes, the latest state of the ozone and demonstrations of ocean currents. The reader is allowed to engage in exploration and made aware of the effects on its resources. The site is successful in staying on theme. Every aspect of the site including the navigational tabs, stories, tv shows, and games all work together to support this theme.
